A Rare Offering of Original Works and Iconic Prints from a Discerning Collector

In the quiet hinterlands of Queensland, behind unassuming walls, a private collection was born — not of vanity, but of vision. Dr. Andrew Chapman, a lifelong patron of beauty and truth, spent decades curating works that speak to the soul, challenge the eye, and whisper stories across time. This is not just a sale. It is a moment of artistic transfer — a legacy passed on.

Spanning the global and the local, this collection dances between the political punch of Keith Haring and the lyrical mystery of Colin Lanceley. It includes masterworks by Sidney Nolan, the fierce romanticism of Pro Hart, and the sophisticated beauty of Charles Blackman. There are etchings that flirt with the surreal, oils that warm the wall, and pieces that wear the scars of life, just as they should.

These are not cold, corporate gallery pieces. They are real. Loved. Repaired. Reframed. And now — released. Whether you’re a seasoned collector, a gallery director, or a young curator chasing your first acquisition, this is your time.

Private release of a museum-grade collection — offered as a single acquisition.
A fantastic future investment coupled with prestige, history, and global names.

Highlights Include

  • Colin Lanceley lithographs, including Pan Twardowski and Popiel — visionary works held in the Tate Modern, reflecting Lanceley’s singular blend of theatre, politics, and mythic architecture.

  • Keith Haring original offset exhibition poster from Into 84, Shafrazi Gallery, NYC — a raw artifact from the front lines of 1980s New York, where art, activism, and street culture collided in real time.

  • Sidney Nolan, Norman Lindsay, Charles Blackman, and Pro Hart — Australian art royalty whose works chart the nation’s psyche, from desert myth to suburban melancholy, from erotic rebellion to lyrical humanism.

  • Akio Onda (Tokyo, born 1924)Girl with Cat, a rare Shoji paper woodblock print.
A standout of post-war Japanese printmaking, Onda’s work bridges traditional ukiyo-e discipline with modern intimacy. Printed on delicate Shoji paper, this piece carries both technical mastery and emotional restraint — a quiet, museum-grade highlight that rewards close attention.

  • Dennis RoparHand Gun.
A confrontational, contemporary work that refuses comfort. Ropar’s imagery interrogates power, threat, and modern masculinity, making this piece a sharp counterpoint to the lyrical and mythic works elsewhere in the collection.

  • Johnny Possum TjapaltjarriPossum Dreaming, with full provenance documentation.
Half-brother to Clifford Possum, Johnny Possum’s work is rare, personal, and largely unseen.

  • Kitty AlberteinAfrican Ceremonial Dressed Couple, circa 1960, a textile work of striking dignity and presence, merging ceremonial tradition with modern composition.

About Durrant Contemporary Art

Jamie Durrant, son of highly collected Australian artist Ivan Durrant, has grown up living among quality Australian contemporary artworks. During his teens and early 20s, he gained an appreciation for Australian master painters, including Albert Tucker, John Blackman and Arthur Boyd, as works by these painters hung in the family home. Over the years, due to extended viewing and tuition by his father Ivan, Jamie has developed an eye for quality works, particularly works of Australian landscapes, abstracts, and contemporary Australian subjects.

Between 2016 and 2019, Jamie was curator of Aboriginal Exhibitions Gallery in North East Victoria, where he gained considerable insight into the style that equates to highly valued contemporary Aboriginal paintings. This role saw Jamie curate exhibitions including artists Trevor ‘Turbo’ Brown, Craig Charles, Billy Doolan, Dennis Nelson Tjakamarra, Russell Butler, Luke Cummins, Kudditji Kngwarreye, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi and more.

Durrant Contemporary Art is a partner gallery with Aboriginal Exhibitions Gallery and a Gold Coast representative partner of the Lockhart River Arts Association (far-North Queensland). Sales of secondary market stock, including Aboriginal artworks, are also handled.
